Brightstorm - Session 4 - Chapter 4 - Worksheet
English Resource Description
The fourth session of 'Brightstorm' delves into Chapter 4, titled 'Parthena', and presents a range of interactive and thought-provoking activities for KS2 students. The session begins with discussion questions that encourage students to describe life at the Beggins' house and ponder the significance of Parthena's arrival, as well as Arthur's suggestion to enter the Polaris Challenge. These discussions are aimed at developing reading and comprehension skills, denoted by RS3, RS4, and RS5 in the resources.
In addition to the discussions, the session includes a variety of reading activities such as continuing a timeline of events, conducting a character analysis of Mr and Mrs Beggins, and engaging in a drama exercise to capture key moments from the chapter through freeze frames. Students are also invited to share their personal thoughts on whether Arthur and Maudie should participate in the Polaris Challenge. The session further enhances learning with a focus on grammar and punctuation, where students hunt for examples of colons, modal verbs, direct speech, sentence structures, and more. A 'Words to Workshop' section provides a list of vocabulary words for students to explore and understand. Writing opportunities are abundant, with tasks like composing a letter to the Geographical Board and creating house rules for the Beggins' household. The session is enriched with cross-curricular links to subjects such as science, history, geography, computing, art, and PSHE, offering a holistic educational experience.
