Science - Year 1 - Pzaz
What does the Year 1 scheme cover?
PZAZ provides Year 1 teachers with all of the essential tools to deliver outstanding Science lessons, ensuring they have all of the resources necessary to plan and achieve positive outcomes for their young pupils. With each lesson designed to take place over two weeks, scientific knowledge builds over time to become firmly embedded. This approach not only fosters a deep appreciation for exploring the world around them from the start of their Science journey, but also gives pupils a lasting enthusiasm for Science learning that stays with them well beyond their primary years.
Seasonal Changes
Delve into the exploration of the four seasons in this unit, examining the transformations in trees and variations in daylight hours throughout the year. Gauge the rainfall levels and contemplate the factors contributing to daytime temperature increases. Broaden pupils’ perspectives by studying global weather patterns and engage in the creation of your very own unique vortex.
Everyday Materials
Embark on a comprehensive study of various materials, their properties and applications throughout this unit. Examine transparent, waterproof and absorbent materials, unravelling their unique characteristics. Conduct investigations into the stretching capacity of elastic bands and explore the varying bounciness of balls made from different materials.
Animals, including Humans
Classify, identify and name a range of animals across this unit, including our domestic pets, wild animals and those in the zoo. Explore the five senses and identify the parts of the human body, including how sensitive our skin can be. Discover concepts such as peripheral vision and optical illusions, and put your auditory perception to the test by experimenting with vibrations and frequency.
Plants
Find out what plants need to grow, the differences between seeds and bulbs, and describe the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees. Cultivate your own plants and observe their development in various conditions to determine optimal growth environments. Investigate the functions of each plant part and explore whether a tomato is classified as a fruit or a vegetable.
