Cops and Robbers - What do you know about the winter? - Seasonal Change - Year 1
Science Resource Description
In a Year 1 classroom, a creative and interactive activity titled "Cops and Robbers" is set up to engage children in recalling and sharing their knowledge about winter, as part of a lesson on seasonal change. The activity begins by giving pupils two minutes to independently write down everything they can remember about winter in the 'Own recalled knowledge' column of their table. This initial phase encourages them to draw upon their personal experiences and understanding of the season.
Following this, the 'robbery' phase of the activity commences, where pupils have 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. Each child is allowed to look at up to three other classmates' answers and add any new information they gather to the 'Stolen knowledge' column on the right side of their table. This collaborative element not only makes the learning process more dynamic but also helps to reinforce their learning through peer interaction. Points are awarded for each plausible statement about winter, with the entire activity designed to last approximately 15 minutes, making it a quick-paced and engaging way to learn about seasonal changes.
