Cops and Robbers - What do you know about plants? - Year 1
Science Resource Description
In a dynamic and interactive activity titled 'Cops and Robbers', Year 1 pupils are encouraged to explore their knowledge about plants. The game starts with a challenge where the children have two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about plants on one side of their table. This initial phase is meant to stimulate their recall of previously learned information and to capture their own knowledge without influence from their peers.
Following this, the excitement builds as they enter the 'robbers' phase of the activity. Here, they are given 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from up to three other classmates. The pupils scurry about, looking at the answers written by their peers, and then add any new information they gather to the 'stolen knowledge' column on the right side of their table. Each plausible statement they write down earns them two points, turning the learning process into a fun and competitive game. The entire activity is designed to last 15 minutes, encouraging quick thinking and engagement. This playful approach not only reinforces their understanding of the different parts of plants but also introduces them to various types of birds, broadening their knowledge of the natural world around them.
