Show it! - Evolution and Inheritance - Year 6
Science Resource Description
As part of a Year 6 curriculum on Evolution and Inheritance, students are encouraged to explore the dynamic history of life on Earth. To culminate their learning journey, they are given the chance to showcase their understanding by presenting to their peers. This presentation can take various forms and is an opportunity for children to articulate the knowledge they've acquired on how living things have evolved over time. A collaborative approach is encouraged, with students forming small groups to delve into specific topics such as evolution, inheritance, adaptation, the contributions of Charles Darwin, or real-world examples of animals adapting to their environments.
The presentation can be facilitated by staff who may create a PowerPoint summarising the ongoing learning for the class to share. Alternatively, each group can take responsibility for their own content, working together to create a presentation that informs and engages their classmates. This interactive session not only helps to reinforce the subject matter but also develops the children's communication and teamwork skills. It allows them to step into the role of educators, as they begin their presentations with a friendly "Good Morning" before diving into the fascinating changes that have occurred in the natural world over millions of years.
