Animal including Humans - Assessment
Science Resource Description
This assessment for Year Four students covers the topic of Animals including Humans, with a focus on the digestive system and food chains. The first section of the assessment requires students to demonstrate their understanding of the human digestive system by identifying and locating various organs. They are asked to draw lines to the correct locations of the digestive organs such as the liver, mouth, oesophagus, and intestines. Following this, students must define digestion and identify where in the body the process begins. They are also expected to explain two functions of saliva in the digestive process.
The assessment continues with questions about nutrient absorption within the digestive system, the number of teeth sets in a human lifetime, the number of incisors in an adult human mouth, and the specific role of molars. Additionally, there is a practical application section where students analyse an experiment comparing different toothpastes and their effectiveness in protecting teeth against vinegar, which simulates the corrosive effects of acids on tooth enamel. Students must determine which toothpaste was the most effective and which offered the best value for money, providing explanations for their conclusions. The final part of the assessment explores ecological concepts, requiring students to identify producers, predators, and prey within a given food chain, explain the significance of the arrows in a food chain, and construct their own food chain using provided images of organisms such as corn, barn owls, field mice, and others.
