My Body - Body Parts Cards
Science Resource Description
The human body is an incredible structure composed of various parts that work together intricately. The arm is one such part, complete with all the necessary components to make up a human limb, ending with the hand. The hand itself is equipped with fingers, of which we typically have four on each hand, adding up to a total of eight. At the end of each hand, we find a thumb, a pivotal element that enables us to grasp and hold objects. Complementing the functionality of our fingers are the fingernails, which require trimming when they grow too long to maintain neatness and hygiene.
Connecting the arm to the hand is the wrist, a joint that facilitates the wide range of hand movements. Further up the arm, located midway, is the elbow, allowing the arm to bend. The shoulder serves as the attachment point for the arm to the body, while the head houses the brain, the control center of all bodily functions. Above the stomach, we find the chest, and just below it lies the stomach itself. Our legs, ending in feet, are the pillars that enable walking, although they may become sore after prolonged activity. Each foot has toes, ten in total, each capped with a toenail that, like fingernails, needs regular trimming. The knee is the joint that allows leg bending, and the bottom is what we sit upon. Our sensory experiences are facilitated by eyes for seeing, a nose for smelling, a mouth for eating, and ears for hearing. Hair, which grows atop our head, often sees the barber for a trim, and the back is a part of our body that we can only view in a mirror. The forehead sits above the eyebrows, which serve to prevent sweat from entering our eyes, while the cheeks and chin form the lower contours of the face.
