Pzaz
Pzaz is a specialist, primary science provider, with schemes written for the non-specialist primary teacher. Created by a science education expert, Pzaz covers every statement of the National Curriculum for Reception to Year 6.

What does the Year 4 scheme cover?

PZAZ provides Year 4 teachers with all of the essential tools to deliver outstanding Science lessons, ensuring they have all of the resources necessary to plan and achieve positive outcomes for their pupils. With each lesson designed to take place over two weeks, scientific knowledge builds gradually over time to become firmly embedded. This approach not only fosters a deep appreciation for exploring the world around them but also gives pupils a lasting enthusiasm for Science learning that stays with them throughout Key Stage 2 and beyond.

Animals, including Humans

Discover the intricacies of the digestive system and unravel the remarkable length of your intestines during this unit. Investigate the effects of excessive sugar consumption on your teeth and contemplate the potential consequences of never brushing your teeth again.

Electricity

Find out about switches, components and symbols while creating circuits in this unit and challenge yourself to try and get your own bulb to light up. Investigate different materials to find the best conductors and insulators and apply this new knowledge to real life scenarios.

States of Matter

Is it a solid, liquid or gas? Find out during this unit. Investigate the nature of particles and explore which states of matter exhibit the highest particle energy. Examine the viscosity of liquids and delve into the chemical reactions responsible for gas formation. Explore the transformative processes of melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation, and engage in experiments to understand reversible changes. Learn about the importance of the water cycle and even make your own cloud in a jar!

Living Things and Their Habitats

Explore the natural phenomena that shape our landscapes and seascapes over time in this unit, including significant events like the ice age and asteroid impacts that have contributed to the extinction of various species. Consider how the changing environment in which we live in can have a great impact on the living things around us and investigate the Earth's layers and the movements of tectonic plates. Name the 5 classes of vertebrate and classify mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, birds and mammals by their distinct characteristics.

Sounds

Explore how sound travels through solids, liquids and gases and find out how some singers manage to break glass with their voices. Explore pitch, volume and frequency through a range of hands-on experiments, and understand the relationship between the energy used to make the sound and the loudness of the sound. Delve into the question of whether ear size affects our ability to hear volume and discover the most effective materials for ear defenders to mitigate loud sounds.
