Resource Plan

The Science Curriculum at our school is supported by a comprehensive Resource Plan that aligns with the practical and interactive scheme provided by The Primary Science Advisory Service (PZAZ). The curriculum is chosen for its hands-on approach, which encourages pupils to actively engage in scientific experiments, thereby enhancing their practical skills alongside their theoretical knowledge. To facilitate this, students typically work in groups of four, and resources are allocated accordingly to ensure each group has sufficient equipment for their practical tasks. The curriculum also promotes cross-curricular learning, particularly with Design and Technology (DT), as students often craft their own scientific apparatus for experiments such as cars, boats, and rockets.

Financially, the school's investment in science resources is carefully planned, with a specific budget allocated each year. Most of the equipment from the PZAZ scheme is non-consumable, which means that after the initial outlay, the school only needs to budget for consumables and replacements for lost or damaged items. Record keeping is streamlined with PZAZ's provided lists, detailing necessary equipment for each lesson and for the entire Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 6 span. These lists categorise items as non-consumable or consumable and are further subdivided based on purchasing frequency. Audits are conducted annually to replenish and replace items, and purchases are made in bulk before the school year commences. Storage is meticulously organised within a dedicated science cupboard, with chemicals safely stored and labelled, and access restricted to pupils. All invoices and manifests are securely kept in the Headteacher's office, ensuring a well-documented trail of the school's science resource acquisition and management.
