Data Gathering Sheet

The Data Gathering Sheet is a structured template designed to assist students in conducting scientific investigations. It begins with providing basic details such as the student's name and the title of the lesson or experiment. The core of the sheet is dedicated to formulating a research question which will guide the investigation. This question is crucial as it determines the direction and focus of the data collection process.

Students are then asked to identify the type of data they will collect, specifically the Dependent Variable, which could be observations, sound, taste, touch, or smell. They are prompted to consider the characteristics of the data, such as the loudness or pitch of a sound, the flavor and texture of a taste, the physical properties when touching an object, or the intensity of a smell. A section for recording numerical data, observations, and other sensory inputs is provided, along with a space to select and draw the appropriate graph (line, bar, pie, or pictogram) to visually represent the findings. The sheet encourages students to make predictions about their Independent Variable and its potential impact on the results, requiring a rationale for their hypotheses.
