The lesson plan provided is designed for Key Stage 2 (KS2) students to explore the complex relationship between internet use and personal relationships. The session begins with a brief review of the previous week's topic, allowing students to reflect on past discussions. Following this, the class engages in a series of activities starting with 'Sharing is caring!', where students in small groups discuss the different methods they use to communicate, particularly focusing on online mediums. They then delve into the significance of the topic in the context of Safer Internet Day, exploring the event's theme to understand the relevance of their conversation. Subsequent activities include 'Following the crowd?', where students evaluate statements about internet use and express their opinions through gestures. In 'Help or hinder?', they read scenarios and use facial expressions to convey whether they believe internet use is beneficial or detrimental to relationships. The session culminates in 'The big debate', a structured discussion where students are divided into groups to present and debate their arguments on the topic, followed by a voting process where they express their stance on whether the internet is bad for relationships. Accommodations for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are provided to ensure inclusivity, and home learning opportunities are suggested to extend the conversation beyond the classroom.
