Cyberbullying Lesson Plan
English Resource Description
The VotesForSchools2018 cyberbullying lesson plan is designed to engage Key Stage 2 students in a thoughtful discussion about the use of anonymous apps and their impact on bullying. The lesson starts with a feedback session on the previous topic about Banksy, followed by a starter activity where students, in small groups, identify and categorize apps they are familiar with based on their suitability. The introduction to the topic includes a debate question and an outline of the learning journey. Students are then invited to write and share anonymous positive messages, leading to a reflection on the power of anonymity and its potential misuse for cyberbullying.
The lesson continues with an informative video for Anti-Bullying Week, encouraging a class discussion on personal experiences with cyberbullying. Students then examine various apps, discuss comments that could be hurtful, and compare the implications of making such comments online versus face-to-face. The activity is designed to help students understand the consequences of cyberbullying. Following this, the class watches a video to explore whether anonymous apps can be beneficial and engages in a discussion about their potential use. The session moves on to practical advice with videos on how to respond to cyberbullying, using the Stop, Speak, and Support framework, and applies this advice to case studies. The lesson concludes with a Call to Action slide, prompting students to learn more and share online safety tips, and a Yes/No summary that encourages students to consider both sides of the debate before voting. Throughout the lesson, additional support is provided for SEN or pupil premium pupils, and stretch and challenge tasks are included to cater to different learning abilities.
