Week 13, lesson 4 Review Day (I,ie,ow) - Phonics Phase 5, unit 2 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
In the fourth lesson of Week 13, the focus is on revising the week's graphemes as well as some previously covered ones. The objective is clear: to review the graphemes
The 'Teach' section involves writing the day's graphemes on one side of the board and displaying pictophones such as Igloo, Ice Cream, Eagle, Ogre, and Owl on the other. Students are encouraged to connect each grapheme with its corresponding phonemes, reinforcing their understanding of the sounds. The 'Practise' segment includes a 'Sentence Sub' activity, where a sentence is written on the board and students read it together. Then, words are substituted to test if the sentence still makes sense, with students volunteering to read the new sentences. Finally, the 'Apply' phase employs YES/NO flashcards where children decode phrases and use the cards to show their answers, further consolidating their grasp of the graphemes in context.
