Week 13, lesson 2 Review day (ou,o,oo) - Phonics Phase 5, unit 2 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
In the second lesson of Week 13, part of the Phonics Phase 5 curriculum, students revisit and reinforce their understanding of the graphemes
The teaching segment of the lesson involves a visual and interactive approach. The graphemes are written on one side of the board, while corresponding pictophones, such as Owl, Ook, Oon, Ox, Ogre, and Umbrella Man, are placed on the other side. Students are then asked to draw connections between each grapheme and its related phonemes, actively engaging with the material. The practice portion of the lesson is dynamic and involves a 'Countdown' activity where students decode and blend words from a list on the board, either by free choice or by the 'lucky dip' method, with points awarded for each word correctly read. The lesson concludes with an 'Apply' phase, where students in pairs read a phrase from the board and then act it out, incorporating a physical and performance element to the learning process.
