Week 12, lessons 1-5 Assessment Week - Phonics Phase 3 - Lesson plan

During Week 12, the focus is on assessing the progress of students in Phonics Phase 3. The objective for the week is to review all the concepts and skills that the children have learned so far. Each day of the week starts with a fun and engaging phonics game, with a selection including Quickdash, Quickwrite, Word Breaker, Tricky Word Race, and the Alphabet Song. These games are designed to revisit and reinforce the phonetic concepts in an interactive manner.

To apply their knowledge, children are divided into groups and rotate through a series of activity stations. At Table 1, they practise constructing words with mini grapheme and pictophone flashcards. Table 2 is set up for letter formation practice, where children use playdough or clay to shape letters. Word Match activities await at Table 3, where children pair object flashcards with corresponding word flashcards. Table 4 provides worksheets that the children work through to further solidify their learning. Finally, at Table 5, they engage in Caption Match/Write activities, either matching captions to images or writing their own stories based on illustrations provided. Throughout these activities, individual children are pulled aside to complete assessment sheets for Phase 3, allowing for a focused evaluation of each child's understanding of the phonics phase.
