Week 9, lesson 3 Tricky Word (all) - Phonics Phase 3 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
The lesson plan for Week 9, Day 3, in the All Aboard Phonics Phase 3 programme is dedicated to teaching the tricky word "all." The objective of the lesson is straightforward: to familiarise the children with this new word that does not follow the usual phonetic rules. The lesson begins with a revisiting activity where children practice quickwriting, converting spoken phonemes into graphemes on their whiteboards, which they then display for the class.
During the teaching phase, the instructor introduces "all" by sound-talking the word and highlighting its unusual sound representation. The children are encouraged to repeat the word several times to become comfortable with it. In the practice phase, a Tricky Word Race is conducted using flashcards of previously learned tricky words, including "all." Children work in teams to quickly read the words, fostering a competitive and engaging learning environment. To apply their knowledge, children participate in a Caption Match activity where they read phrases written on the board and match them to corresponding images. They then write one of the phrases on their whiteboards. The lesson is rounded off with extension activities such as using magnetic letters and practicing printing, which reinforce the learning in a hands-on manner.
