Week 2, lesson 5 Reviewing tricky words - Phonics Phase 3 - Presentation
English Resource Description
In Week 2, Lesson 5 of Phonics Phase 3, students are set to revisit and reinforce their understanding of tricky words. The session begins with an introduction that prepares the class for the lesson's focus. The aim is to review these words to ensure that students can recognise and read them with confidence. The lesson is structured in a way that allows for a thorough review and practice of the tricky words, which are often exceptions to common spelling or phonetic rules and therefore require extra attention.
During the 'Revisit' stage, the lesson revisits the cardinal directions: north, east, south, and west. These words serve as an example of tricky words that students need to become familiar with. Following the review, the 'Teach' phase introduces new tricky words or reinforces those that have been previously learned. Students then move on to the 'Practise' phase, which involves an engaging 'Tricky Word Race' activity, designed to make the learning process interactive and fun. To apply their knowledge, students use mini whiteboards in the 'Apply' phase, allowing them to write and work with the tricky words in a hands-on manner. The lesson concludes with a wrap-up, signalling the end of the session and a return to the main menu, where students can transition to the next part of their learning journey.
