Grapheme Recognition Assessment sheet- Phonics Phase 2 - Resource
English Resource Description
The Grapheme Recognition Assessment Sheet is a resource designed for Phonics Phase 2, aimed at evaluating a student's ability to recognize and articulate individual phonemes (sounds) and blend them to form words. The assessment is part of the "129All Aboard Phonics - Phase 2 Teacher Manual" and is intended to be used by educators to gauge a learner's phonemic awareness, which is a critical skill in early reading development.
During the assessment, the student is presented with a list of simple words such as 'tap', 'fig', 'sock', 'bell', 'rot', and 'bun'. The instructor asks the learner to sound out each phoneme in the given words and then blend these phonemes to say the whole word. For example, the student would be expected to break down the word 'tap' into its constituent sounds /t/, /a/, /p/, and then say the complete word 'tap'. The teacher records the student's proficiency in both sounding out and blending for each word, marking 'yes' for successful attempts and 'no' for unsuccessful ones. Assistance may be provided if necessary, but this is indicated with a 'n' mark. The entire activity is time-bound, with a recommended duration of 60 seconds to maintain focus and efficiency.
