Week 6, lesson 1 Aye-Aye Caption - Phonics Phase 2 - Worksheet
English Resource Description
During Week 6, Lesson 1 of the Aye-Aye Caption phonics programme, the objective is to review all the phonics concepts that have been taught so far. This session serves as an assessment day where children can showcase their understanding of phonics Phase 2. The lesson is interactive and involves a variety of games designed to reinforce grapheme recognition, phoneme identification, and the connection between them.
The games include 'Sound Splat', where children race to slap the correct grapheme/pictophone flashcard upon hearing its phoneme, and 'Letter Pops', where children quickly display the grapheme card they hold when its phoneme is called out. 'Quickdash' sees teams competing to identify graphemes/pictophones rapidly, while 'Sound Jump' involves jumping in response to phoneme calls. 'North, South, East, West' uses the room's layout to associate graphemes or tricky words with their phonemes. After game play, children are divided into groups for application activities such as 'Build a Word' with flashcards, 'Letter Build' using playdough or clay, 'Word Match' with object and word flashcards, and completing worksheets. Individual assessments are also conducted using assessment sheets to evaluate each child's grasp of Phase 2 phonics.
