Medium Term Plan - Rugby - GCSE
Physical Education Resource Description
The six-lesson medium-term plan for Key Stage 4 GCSE students is designed to enhance their rugby skills, knowledge, and tactical understanding in preparation for GCSE assessments. The intent is to refine core skills within conditioned practices and actual gameplay, enabling candidates to outwit opponents by utilising advanced skills and tactical plays. Students will learn to analyse the opposition's strengths and weaknesses, exploiting them to achieve success, while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of positions, game rules, and terminology specific to rugby.
The programme covers a range of knowledge and skills, including the application of techniques in competitive contexts, decision-making, skill execution, and understanding specific rugby terminology and game rules. Skills such as passing, receiving, ball handling, tackling, rucking, scrum, kicking, and line out are developed through a sequence of learning that builds on Key Stage 3 fundamentals. The lessons focus on advanced skill application, pressurised game situations, and the development of coaching and umpiring roles to deepen rule knowledge. Pupils will also engage in activities that promote problem-solving, decision-making, personal development, and evaluation of performances, preparing them for potential careers in the sports industry. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive, with differentiation strategies to cater to individual learning needs and assessment tools to monitor progress.
