Medium Term Plan - Outdoor and Adventurous Activities - KS4
Physical Education Resource Description
The medium-term plan for Key Stage 4, encompassing Years 10 and 11, is designed to span six lessons with the intent to enhance communication and teamwork skills through outdoor and adventurous activities (OAA). The curriculum aims to develop both mental and physical capacities, with a focus on problem-solving, cooperation, and listening. Students are encouraged to think critically, utilise leadership skills, and experience a different facet of physical education. The impact of the course is assessed at three levels: emerging, developing, and mastery, each with specific competencies related to cooperation, communication, problem-solving, and leadership.
Students will gain knowledge in areas such as developing group solutions, peer and self-review processes, map skills application, and understanding the qualities of good leadership. The skill set includes communication, problem-solving, teamwork, map reading, time management, and organisation/planning. The learning sequence builds on teamwork and communication, character skills, performance improvement through review, and leadership development. Key concepts cover accurate replication of OAA skills, developing physical and mental capacity, refining performance skills, problem-solving, setting challenges, decision-making, personal development, and evaluating and improving. The plan also highlights the importance of understanding potential careers in the sports industry. Each week focuses on different learning objectives, tasks, and activities, with differentiation and assessment tools to cater to individual learning needs.
