Medium Term Plan - Striking and Fielding - Year 4
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 4 Striking and Fielding medium-term plan, spanning six lessons, is aimed at developing students' proficiency in a variety of physical education skills. These include sending, receiving, batting, and bowling, which are essential to games such as cricket, tennis, and rounders. The intent is to cultivate an understanding of point scoring, fair play, and teamwork, as well as to encourage enjoyment and sportsmanship. Students will learn to apply these skills in different game contexts, understanding the basic rules and strategies needed to outwit opponents and work effectively in pairs or teams. The plan covers knowledge acquisition, such as technique replication and gameplay strategies, alongside skill development in throwing, catching, striking, and bowling.
Each week is structured with specific learning objectives and task examples designed to build upon the previous lesson. The initial lessons focus on fielding, with activities to enhance throwing and catching techniques. As the plan progresses, students are introduced to batting in cricket, fielding and bowling in rounders, and striking in tennis, each accompanied by warm-ups and game play to apply these skills in a competitive environment. The final lesson culminates in a competitive assessment, where students demonstrate their ability to outwit opponents using the techniques they've learned. The plan also includes cross-curricular links to literacy and numeracy, and aims to impact students' abilities at different levels—from replicating basic motions to executing skilled actions with excellent control. The overarching goal is to foster personal development, decision-making, and problem-solving skills through physical education.
