Medium Term Plan - Invasion Games - Year 4
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 4 medium-term plan for Invasion Games in PE focuses on developing a variety of core skills over the course of six lessons. The intent is for pupils to master the skills of sending, receiving, striking, and travelling with a ball across different game situations such as Netball, Basketball, and Hockey. The curriculum aims to enhance the children's ability to attack successfully by utilising space, maintaining ball possession, and implementing simple tactics. It also emphasises the importance of decision-making in game scenarios and the understanding of fair play and sportsmanship. The key areas of knowledge include the principles of possession, spatial awareness, and a grasp of basic game rules.
The implementation of the plan is structured to progressively build on the students' skills, starting with basic passing and receiving in Netball and advancing to dribbling in Basketball and handling in Uni-Hock. Each week, the learning objectives are paired with practical tasks, such as small-sided games and specific drills that encourage pupils to apply their skills in competitive contexts. The plan also incorporates elements of personal development, such as resilience and teamwork, and cross-curricular links to literacy and numeracy through key vocabulary and scoring. By the end of the term, pupils are expected to demonstrate their ability to replicate core game skills, make tactical decisions, and understand game rules, with assessments conducted through a mini multi-sport tournament.
