Rhythm Pulse Activity Book - Double Double This This
Music Resource Description
The Rhythm Pulse Activity Book introduces an engaging clapping game titled "Double Double This This," which encourages children to learn rhythm and coordination through a series of clapping actions. The game involves a sequence of claps that correspond to the phrases "Double Double," "This This," and "That That." When the phrase "Double Double" is spoken, despite its two syllables, participants are instructed to clap only once. The game continues with clapping one's own hands, clapping a partner's hands, and clapping the back of a partner's hands with the back of one's own hands. An extension activity suggests that children can get creative by substituting the words "This" and "That" with new words such as "Play" and "Time," while keeping the same clapping actions.
Additionally, the activity book includes a rhythm challenge called "Don’t Tap This One Back." In the first version, children listen to various 4-beat rhythm patterns and echo them back. However, they must refrain from echoing the specific rhythm "Don’t tap this one back," signalled by the rhythm pattern (Ta, Ta, Te-Te Ta). Any child who accidentally repeats this phrase is gently eliminated from the round. The second version increases the difficulty by having the children avoid playing back a randomly chosen 4-beat pattern that is displayed to them as a visual reminder, requiring heightened concentration and attention to the rhythms being played.
