Max Maths, Year 4, Work Book, Converting units of length

In the Max Maths workbook for Year 4, students are given exercises to practice converting units of length. In Practice 2, they measure various objects and convert their lengths into millimetres and centimetres. For instance, a mobile phone measuring 11 cm is converted into millimetres by multiplying by 10, resulting in 110 mm. Similarly, a pencil that is 7 cm and 4 mm in length is converted by first turning the centimetres into millimetres (7 cm = 70 mm) and then adding the extra millimetres to find the total length in millimetres.

The workbook also guides students through the process of converting lengths from millimetres back to centimetres, as well as from metres to centimetres. For example, a brush that is 170 mm long is converted to centimetres by dividing by 10, giving a result of 17 cm. In another exercise, they convert the length of an alligator from metres to centimetres by multiplying the length in metres (2.7 m) by 100, resulting in 270 cm. The exercises are designed to help students become fluent in switching between different metric units of length and understanding the relationship between them.
