Max Maths, Year 4, Work Book, Comparing and ordering decimals
Maths Resource Description
The Max Maths workbook for Year 4 provides an engaging exercise on comparing and ordering decimal numbers. Practice 3 consists of several tasks designed to help students understand the value of decimals and their correct order. The first task requires pupils to identify the greater decimal in each given pair by ticking the appropriate number. For example, they will compare pairs like 1.4 and 2.4, or 3.65 and 2.99, determining which is the larger number. This exercise covers a range of comparisons, from simple ones like 1.4 versus 1.9 to more complex ones such as 3.65 versus 2.99.
In the second task, students are asked to circle the smaller decimal number in each pair, reinforcing their ability to evaluate decimal values. Pairs such as 8.5 and 5.8, or 5.99 and 6.01, provide varied levels of difficulty to challenge the students' understanding. The third task requires the use of the greater than '>' and less than '<' symbols to correctly relate pairs of decimals, like 6.3 and 6.1, or 1.84 and 1.90. Further exercises involve interpreting visual representations of decimals using coloured parts of whole squares and then ordering these decimals from smallest to greatest, or vice versa, helping students to visualise decimal values and their relative sizes in a practical, engaging way.
