Max Maths, Year 4, Try it, Mixed numbers
Maths Resource Description
In a Max Maths exercise designed for Year 4 students, children are encouraged to apply their understanding of mixed numbers through a visually engaging task. The first activity presents a series of squares, each divided into equal parts with a certain number of parts coloured in. Students are required to observe these coloured sections and match them to the correct mixed number from a list of options. Each option represents a whole number alongside a fraction, such as 8 3/4, 4 4/5, 4 3/4, and 12 1/4, and the task is to tick the one that accurately represents the coloured portion of the squares.
The second activity further explores the concept of mixed numbers by asking students to look at various shapes with coloured parts. The children must write down the mixed number that corresponds to the coloured section of each shape. Once they have identified these mixed numbers, they are instructed to place them in the correct order on a number line provided at the bottom of the page, which is marked from 0 to 5. This task not only tests their ability to identify mixed numbers but also their skills in comparing and ordering them. Students can find additional practice and reinforcement of these concepts on workbook pages 125 to 126.
