Max Maths, Year 4, Try it, Reading and making tables

In the 'Max Maths' Year 4 curriculum, students are encouraged to engage with data through a practical exercise in reading and creating tables. The 'Let's Try It' section presents a table that records the number of people visiting the zoo over a five-day period. The task requires students to analyse this information to answer questions such as identifying the day with the most visitors, finding out which day only 20 people visited the zoo, comparing visitor numbers on Monday and Tuesday, and determining which day had the least number of visitors.

Following this exercise, students are prompted to conduct their own survey within a small group. They are given the option to formulate their own question or select from suggested questions about favourite colours, foods, heights, weights, or birth months. The aim is for students to collect data, represent their findings in a table, and then present the information to the class. This hands-on activity helps students understand how to organise and interpret data, as well as communicate their findings effectively, highlighting key features of their table.
