Max Maths, Year 4, Practice, Mental multiplication
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 4 practice section on mental multiplication, children are encouraged to enhance their numerical agility through a series of exercises. The first task requires students to mentally double a set of numbers, ranging from simple two-digit figures like 12, 27, and 33, to larger ones such as 47, 220, and 410. This exercise is designed to strengthen their ability to quickly calculate multiples of two and to reinforce their understanding of basic multiplication facts.
The second activity challenges pupils to mentally halve a different set of numbers, including 160, 180, 220, 420, 360, and 500. This task is aimed at developing their mental division skills. The third exercise steps up the complexity by asking students to multiply numbers by 4, with examples provided such as 11, 15, 26, 32, 56, and 39. Finally, the fourth task revisits the concept of doubling, but with much larger numbers this time: 500, 1,200, 800, 2,500, 2,000, and 1,100. These exercises not only boost mental calculation skills but also prepare students for more advanced mathematical concepts. For further practice and detailed exercises, students are directed to the workbook pages 73 to 75.
