Max Maths, Year 4, Practice, Multiplying 2-digit numbers with regrouping
Maths Resource Description
In Max Maths for Year 4, students are encouraged to practice their multiplication skills with a focus on multiplying 2-digit numbers using the column method, also known as long multiplication. This method involves writing the numbers in columns and multiplying each digit in turn, making sure to regroup or carry over as necessary. The 'Let's Try It' section provides a straightforward introduction with two examples for the children to work through. The first example is multiplying 39 by 2, and the second example is multiplying 27 by 5. These exercises are designed to help students become familiar with the column method and understand the importance of alignment and regrouping.
Moving on to the 'Let's Practise' section, the exercises become slightly more complex, requiring students to multiply 27 by 6 and 28 by 7. These problems are intended to reinforce the skills learned in the 'Let's Try It' section and to provide further practice in regrouping when the products exceed 9. The students are prompted to show their working, which helps teachers assess their understanding and provide guidance where needed. For additional practice and more comprehensive exercises, students are directed to the workbook pages 65 to 68, where they can apply their knowledge and continue to improve their multiplication skills.
