Max Maths, Year 4, Practice, Multiplying 2-digit numbers without regrouping
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths programme for Year 4 students, a practice exercise focuses on multiplying 2-digit numbers without the need for regrouping. The "Let's Try It" section introduces a hands-on approach to multiplication using counting blocks. Students are asked to find the product of 3 and 13 by visually representing the numbers with tens and ones blocks, which provides a concrete understanding of the multiplication process. They place the appropriate number of blocks in the tens and ones columns to arrive at the answer for 3 times 13.
The practice continues with the column method for multiplication, which is a more traditional paper-and-pencil approach. Students are given a set of problems to multiply two numbers using this method. For example, they would multiply 11 by 2 and 31 by 3, setting up each problem in the correct column format. The "Let's Practise" section then presents additional multiplication problems to complete independently, such as multiplying 12 by 4, 32 by 3, 40 by 2, and 11 by 8. This section is designed to reinforce the concept and ensure students are comfortable with the multiplication of 2-digit numbers without regrouping. For further practice and reinforcement, students are directed to workbook pages 60 to 64.
