In the Max Maths Year 4 practice section, students are presented with word problems to enhance their arithmetic skills. The first problem involves addition, where students must calculate the total number of people who attended the circus over two days. Specifically, 608 people attended on Monday, and an additional 337 people attended on Tuesday. The task is to find the sum of these two numbers to determine the total attendance.

The second problem focuses on combining weights, where students are asked to find the total mass of a hippopotamus and an elephant. The hippopotamus weighs 744 kg, and the elephant weighs 658 kg. By adding these two figures together, students can work out the combined mass of the two animals. The Maths Challenge section takes it a step further by introducing a sequence of daily increases. It starts with 146 people visiting the zoo on Monday, and the number increases by 65 each day. Students must calculate the total number of visitors from Monday to Friday for part (a), and then determine the total number of visitors for the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, for part (b).
