Max Maths, Year 4, Practice, Comparing and ordering numbers up to 10000 (1)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 4 practice exercises, students are challenged with the task of comparing and ordering numbers up to 10,000. The first activity asks pupils to identify the greater number from pairs of figures. For example, they compare 4,820 with 5,099, and then 1,037 with 1,028, among others, ticking the number that is larger. This exercise helps to develop their understanding of place value and their ability to discern which of two numbers is greater based on the value of the digits in each place.
The second activity flips the task, requiring students to compare pairs of numbers again, but this time to tick the smaller one. This includes comparing numbers such as 755 with 1,006, and 3,690 with 369. The third and final activity in this set provides a more complex challenge: arranging a series of numbers in ascending order, from the smallest to the greatest. Students are given sequences of four numbers, such as 3,290, 3,920, 3,294, and 3,902, and must order them correctly. This exercise not only reinforces their understanding of numerical order but also sharpens their skills in critical thinking and attention to detail.
