Max Maths, Year 3, Practice, Word problems
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 3 practice section on word problems, young learners are encouraged to apply their mathematical skills to real-life situations. The first problem presents a scenario involving time calculation where students are asked to determine the end time of a school concert that starts at 8.30 a.m. and lasts for 2 hours. This exercise helps children understand the concept of time duration and enhances their ability to perform simple time additions.
The second problem is slightly more complex, requiring students to compare the duration of two separate reading sessions. Jade spends 2 hours and 30 minutes reading a book on Monday and then 4 hours and 20 minutes on a different book on Tuesday. The question challenges students to calculate the difference in time spent on each activity, thus practising their skills in time subtraction and understanding of hours and minutes. These problems are designed to improve students' problem-solving abilities and their grasp of everyday mathematics. For further practice and examples, students are directed to their workbooks on pages 208 to 209.
