Max Maths, Year 3, Work Book, Review of units of volume
Maths Resource Description
The Max Maths workbook for Year 3 includes a section dedicated to the review of volume units. Practice 9 is designed to reinforce students' understanding of measuring liquids in millilitres and litres. The first exercise prompts students to identify which containers hold more than 1 litre of liquid by ticking the appropriate boxes. Containers with various volumes such as 700 ml, 30 ml, 550 ml, 1 500 ml, 100 l, 2 l, 185 ml, and 1 l 670 ml are presented for comparison and to test the students' ability to recognise volumes greater than 1 litre.
The next activity involves writing the volume of liquid shown in each measuring cylinder, with six different cylinders depicted in pairs, each with volume scales marked in millilitres. Students must read the scales and record the volume of liquid in each cylinder accurately. The final task is a conversion exercise where students are required to convert litres to millilitres and vice versa. They are given various volumes such as 5 litres, 7 litres, 10 litres, and combinations of litres and millilitres (e.g., 2 l 300 ml, 1 l 650 ml), and they must convert these into either millilitres or a combination of litres and millilitres, as appropriate. This exercise helps students practice and understand the relationship between the two units of volume measurement.
