Max Maths, Year 3, Try it, Review of measuring mass in grams and kilograms (2)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths Year 3 curriculum, students are given the opportunity to review and practice their understanding of measuring mass in grams and kilograms. The exercises provided in the workbook pages 171 to 176 aim to reinforce their ability to identify and compare the masses of different objects. For instance, students are asked to write down the masses of various items, which helps them become familiar with the concept of weight and the units used to measure it.
The 'Let's Practise' section offers an interactive way for students to apply their knowledge by filling in blanks with 'less than' or 'greater than'. They are presented with everyday items such as a television, a 50-cent coin, a watermelon, and a potato, and they must determine whether these items have a mass that is less than or greater than 1 kilogram. This activity not only tests their understanding of mass but also encourages them to think critically about the weight of objects in relation to a standard kilogram. The workbook includes a visual aid with a scale divided into kilograms and 500-gram increments to support students in visualising and estimating mass effectively.
