Max Maths, Year 3, Learn together, Review of addition facts (1)
Maths Resource Description
In the Year 3 mathematics curriculum, students revisit the fundamental concept of addition through a review of addition facts. This particular exercise is aimed at reinforcing their ability to recall and mentally compute addition facts that result in sums of up to 20. By engaging with this exercise, students are encouraged to strengthen their mental arithmetic skills, which form the bedrock of their mathematical understanding at this stage of learning.
The exercise provides a series of simple addition problems that students are expected to solve mentally, without the aid of calculators or written methods. For example, they are asked to find the sum of numbers like 5 and 3, which together make 8, or to add 12 and 5 to get 17. Other addition pairs include 10 plus 4, which equals 14, and 8 plus 10, resulting in 18. The exercise also presents a pair of numbers that both add up to the same sum, such as 8 plus 7 and 10 plus 5, which both equal 15. This type of exercise not only helps students to quickly recall addition facts but also enables them to recognize patterns and relationships between numbers, an essential skill in the development of numeracy.
