Max Maths, Year 3, Learn together, Counting up to 1000 (1)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths curriculum for Year 3, students embark on a journey to master the skill of counting up to 1,000. The "Learn Together" section of the material provides a structured approach to understanding the foundational concepts of place value. Initially, students are reminded of the basic principle that ten individual units, or 'ones', combine to form one 'ten'. This concept is a crucial building block in the realm of mathematics, as it lays the groundwork for understanding larger numbers.
Building on this, the lesson then reinforces the idea that ten 'tens' come together to make one 'hundred'. To aid in visualising and solidifying this understanding, practical demonstrations using beads and blocks are provided. These tactile learning tools enable students to physically group ones into tens and tens into hundreds, offering a concrete representation of abstract numerical concepts. By engaging with these hands-on activities, children can see the incremental progression from ones to tens and then to hundreds, preparing them to confidently count all the way up to 1,000.
