Max Maths, Year 2, Try it, Angles
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths programme for Year 2, students are introduced to the concept of angles through hands-on and visual learning. One of the exercises involves understanding the movement of an object, in this case, a blue ice-cream stick, as it rotates around a circle. The activity describes how the ice-cream stick has turned all the way around, completing a full circle, which is referred to as a 'whole' turn. This movement creates what is known as a complete turn, and in the context of angles, it is named accordingly.
The "Let's Try It" section of the activity encourages students to engage with the concept by examining different angles and labelling them based on the extent of the turn. They are asked to identify and label a quarter turn with the letter 'Q', a half turn with the letter 'H', and a complete turn with the letter 'C'. This exercise helps to reinforce their understanding of the different types of angles and the terminology associated with them, providing a foundation for their mathematical learning in geometry.
