Max Maths, Year 2, Game Time, Amounts of money
Maths Resource Description
In a dynamic and engaging activity from the Max Maths curriculum for Year 2, students get to practice working with amounts of money in a game format. The teacher provides each child with a set of play money, which includes both dollar notes and coins. The objective of the game is for students to listen carefully as the teacher calls out a specific amount of money, and then, using their play money, they must quickly assemble the exact combination of notes and coins that match the announced amount.
The excitement builds as students race against each other to be the first to correctly represent the given amount. Once a student believes they have the right combination, they raise their hand to signal their completion. The first student to do so accurately earns 5 points for being the quickest. This student is then given the opportunity to lead the game by calling out the next amount of money for their classmates to gather. This interactive game not only reinforces the understanding of different denominations of money but also encourages quick thinking and sharpens mental calculation skills in a fun and competitive environment.
