Max Maths, Year 2, Learn together, Coins and dollar notes (1)

In the Max Maths Year 2 curriculum, young learners are introduced to the basics of currency through an engaging lesson on coins and dollar notes. The 'Let's Learn Together' section begins with an exploration of the various coins that are commonly used. Children are shown real-life examples of coins, starting with the smallest denomination, the 1-cent coin, which is represented by the symbol 1¢. This visual and symbolic representation helps them to recognise and understand the value of each coin.

The lesson continues with the introduction of other coins, including the 2-cent coin (2¢), the 5-cent coin (5¢), the 10-cent coin (10¢), the 20-cent coin (20¢), and the larger 50-cent coin (50¢). Each coin is presented with an image and its corresponding value, allowing children to familiarise themselves with the different denominations and how to write them using the cent symbol. This foundational knowledge sets the stage for further learning about money, spending, and saving, which are essential life skills.
