Max Maths, Year 2, Try it, Measuring mass in grams and in kilograms (1)
Maths Resource Description
In a practical exercise designed for Year 2 pupils, the task is to familiarise them with measuring mass using grams and kilograms. The activity, titled "Let's Try It", involves observing different objects placed on weighing scales and recording their mass. Each scale is marked with various measurements in grams (g), ranging from 0g to 450g, allowing children to determine the mass by looking at the position of the pointer on the scale.
The exercise is broken down into four parts, labelled from (a) to (d), each featuring a set of scales with an object on it. The children are expected to write down the mass of the object by reading the scales. This hands-on activity not only helps the students learn how to measure and write mass in grams but also aids in their understanding of the concept of weight and the use of standard units of measurement. By engaging with real-life objects and scales, the pupils can develop a practical understanding of mass, which is an essential skill in mathematics and everyday life.
