Within the Max Maths curriculum for Year 2, there is an engaging lesson on equal sharing, a fundamental concept in understanding division. The activity begins with 12 counting blocks and asks the students to divide them into two equal groups. Building on this concept, the lesson progresses by asking students to divide the same set of 12 blocks into four equal groups. Through this exercise, they discover that each group now consists of 3 blocks, demonstrating the division equation 12 ÷ 4 = 3. Finally, the children are challenged to divide the blocks into three equal groups, where they will see that each group is made up of 4 blocks, corresponding to the division equation 12 ÷ 3 = 4.
