Max Maths, Year 1, Learn together, Comparing the length of more than two objects
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Max Maths, Year 1' curriculum, young learners are introduced to the concept of comparing the lengths of multiple objects. This engaging activity is designed to help children understand relative sizes and develop their ability to evaluate and order objects based on their length. To illustrate this concept, students are presented with a set of sticks labelled A, B, and C. They are encouraged to observe and compare the sticks to determine that Stick B is longer than Stick A but shorter than Stick C, leading to the conclusion that Stick C is the longest of the three.
The learning continues with a similar exercise involving flowers. Here, children are asked to look at Flowers A, B, and C, and compare their heights. Through observation, they deduce that Flower A is taller than Flower B but not as tall as Flower C, which is identified as the tallest flower. The lesson further extends to comparing the positions of animals, where students note the mouse is at a higher position than the cat, and the tortoise is at the highest position. These exercises are designed to help Year 1 students grasp the basic concepts of measurement and comparison, which are foundational skills in mathematics.
