Max Maths, Year 1, Try it, Patterns with shapes
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Try It' section of Max Maths for Year 1, children are encouraged to explore patterns using shapes. The activity is designed to enhance their ability to recognise and predict sequences in patterns. Students are presented with a series of shapes arranged in a specific order and are asked to determine what shape would logically follow next. Each pattern, labelled from (a) to (d), requires careful observation, allowing children to practice their critical thinking and pattern recognition skills.
The second task focuses on matching shapes to their corresponding patterns. This activity not only reinforces the children's understanding of sequences but also helps them to make connections between individual shapes and the larger patterns they form. To further practice these skills, students are directed to workbook pages 135 to 137, where additional exercises await them. These exercises are specifically tailored to build their confidence in identifying and creating patterns, a fundamental aspect of early mathematical learning.
