Solve problems with unit conversion worksheet
Maths Resource Description
Activity 1 invites children to develop their understanding of measurement by working with random digit cards that represent different units for length, mass, or volume. The task requires the children to select five cards within one of these categories and then arrange them in either ascending or descending order. The activity encourages critical thinking as the children must explain their reasoning behind the positioning of the cards, which involves comparing and ordering measurements in various units.
In Activity 3, the children are presented with a real-world scenario involving a gardener using lawn fertiliser. They are tasked with using squared paper and rulers to calculate how many square metres of grass can be covered with one pack of fertiliser, considering that 100g of fertiliser is mixed with 2 litres of water and 500ml of this mixture covers 1m² of grass. The children must also determine the number of different rectangular lawns that could be covered using the exact amount of fertiliser from one pack. This activity not only tests their calculation skills but also their ability to apply these skills to solve practical problems. They are prompted to explain the steps they took to arrive at their solutions, reinforcing their understanding of the process and the conversion of units of measure.
