The Big Times Table Challenge 2
Maths Resource Description
The Big Times Table Challenge 2 is an engaging mathematical exercise aimed at Year 5 students to test and improve their multiplication and division skills, as well as their knowledge of squares. This challenge, created by KS2Gems in 2020, consists of a series of 100 arithmetic problems that students are encouraged to complete within a 5-minute timeframe. If completed in under 5 minutes, the time taken is to be recorded. The problems encompass a range of calculations including basic multiplication, such as 6 x 8, and division, such as 36 ÷ 9. Students will also encounter square numbers, for example, 16², and will need to apply their understanding of times tables and division facts to successfully navigate through the challenge.
The worksheet is designed to cover a variety of numerical operations, ensuring a comprehensive review of the students' arithmetic abilities. Questions include multiplying single and double-digit numbers, dividing with single-digit divisors, and computing the squares of numbers. Examples of the tasks students will face are 7 x 3, 24 ÷ 3, and 15². The challenge is not only a test of speed but also accuracy, with students required to answer all questions correctly to achieve a perfect score of 100. The Big Times Table Challenge 2 is an excellent tool for teachers to assess their students' proficiency in key mathematical areas and for students to practice and reinforce their numerical skills.
