Line Graphs without Tables

The Line Graph Pack 3, created by KS2Gems, is an educational resource aimed at enhancing the data interpretation skills of students. This pack includes a selection of line graphs that come without accompanying tables, presenting a unique challenge for children to tackle. Teachers are encouraged to distribute these graphs among students, preferably working in pairs, to allow them to interpret the data and create corresponding tables. This exercise not only helps students understand the information presented in the graph but also aids them in organising data systematically.

Once the students have successfully created the tables, they can use both the graphs and tables to formulate their own questions, fostering a deeper engagement with the material. This activity is designed to be interactive and collaborative, with the teacher initially modelling the process for the entire class before the students begin their independent work. The graphs cover a variety of topics, including the change in temperature at the seaside during a summer holiday, the number of ice cream sales, the growth of a sunflower over weeks, the weight increase of a baby over months, and the population growth in an English village over centuries. These diverse topics not only make the exercise more interesting but also provide a broad context for students to apply their analytical skills.
