Decimal equivalents to quarters worksheet
Maths Resource Description
The worksheet designed for KS2 students aims to enhance their understanding of the relationship between fractions and their decimal equivalents, specifically focusing on the quarters: ¼, ½, and ¾. In the first activity, students are presented with visual representations of these fractions and are tasked with writing down the corresponding decimal values. To further cement their understanding, they are then shown the decimal equivalents and asked to create three different visual representations for each, such as a segmented circle, a bar model, and a position on a number line, providing a variety of perspectives on these numerical relationships.
Following the initial task, the second activity introduces a playful element to learning with a pack of Year 4 Game Cards. Students engage in familiar games like Snap or Memory, where the focus is on matching fractions with their decimal counterparts, turning the learning process into an interactive and enjoyable experience. In the third activity, each child is given a visual fraction representation and uses place value (PV) counters and a PV Mat, marked with two decimal places, to convert the fraction into a decimal format. This hands-on approach allows for practical exploration of decimals, and the added step of children checking each other's work fosters collaborative learning and peer review. The objective of these exercises is for students to confidently recognise and write the decimal equivalents to the fractions ¼, ½, and ¾, building a strong foundation for their mathematical proficiency.
