Interpreting and presenting data worksheet
Maths Resource Description
KS2Gems has crafted an engaging worksheet for 2022, designed to help Key Stage 2 students master the interpretation and presentation of data through practical activities. The first activity requires a spacious outdoor area, such as a playground, where children can draw on the ground with chalk. They'll learn to set up the axes for a bar chart or pictogram, discuss and decide on the appropriate labels and scales, and represent data by positioning themselves or objects according to a given data table. The activity is hands-on, with the children's arrangement or objects used to create the visual data representation, which is then photographed for future reference.
The second activity introduces a critical thinking element, where students are provided with bar charts, pictograms, or tables that contain intentional errors. Working in pairs, the children are tasked with identifying and explaining these errors and suggesting corrections. This exercise is designed to deepen their understanding of accurate data representation. The third activity extends over multiple lessons and involves the entire class, year group, or school in a survey. Students collaborate in small groups to collect data, which is then compiled into a tally chart or table. They then create their own bar charts or pictograms to visualise the collected data and develop questions based on it, which they exchange with peers to answer. Through these activities, students work towards the objective of interpreting and presenting data using various graphical methods, with an emphasis on both individual work (W) and group collaboration (G).
